Education (back)

Family Education

Caring for a person with dementia may mean you have to learn how to communicate all over again. Learning new skills can help you face the daily realities of living with and caring for a person with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia- and it may help you better understand your own feelings.

We currently offer two programs to help families:

Living with Alzheimer's Disease (LWAD) Information Workshop

Click here to open a printable version of our Living with Alzheimer's Disease fact sheet

The workshop sessions bring together specialists providing practical information that will be helpful to people living with dementia; and to the family and friends who support them. This intensive, "how-to course" addresses many relevant topics including the physical, mental and emotional changes common in Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.

This information will help you manage day to day activities and better understand changes as they occur. You will also receive information that will help you plan for upcoming decisions regarding legal, financial, and medical concerns that affect your future. Other topics include community resources, home care, the family perspective and remembering self-care.

Workshops are offered in Winnipeg and throughout the province at different times during the year.

Here are the upcoming sessions:

Winnipeg: Two consecutive sessions - Saturday, February 6th & Saturday, February 13th, 2010 from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm (each covering three separate topics).

Registration by February 3rd, 2010 - $20.00 per person. Click here for more information.
