Individuals who are facing Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias benefit from receiving information as soon as possible. The journey with dementia poses many challenges, and having an understanding of what you are facing, and reliable information about the types of help available to you, will make a difference.

The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba offers educational programs throughout the province to educate and empower people with dementia, their families and friends. Below is a description of each program.

Caring for a person with dementia may mean you have to learn how to communicate all over again. Learning new skills can help you face the daily realities of living with and caring for a person with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia - and it may help you better understand your own feelings.

The Living With Alzheimer Disease or Other Dementias workshop sessions feature presentations on the disease process from a medical, family and individual perspective, legal & financial considerations, helpful community resources, caregiver tips and home safety.

The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba offers family education for those experiencing dementia in 20 communities accross the province via video technology.

The Care4U Family Conference helps support and revitalize caregivers in Manitoba by providing them with education that will assist them in caring for someone with dementia.

This years Care4U Family Conference was held Nov. 5 at Canadian Mennonite University.

The exciting day-long program featured local and national dementia care professionals who shared the latest in research, community resources and care techniques.

This 8-week education program is designed to support family caregivers and people with early-stage dementia. Dementia-care specialists and community professionals will help guide participants through the disease process and learn strategies for maximizing independence while enriching relationships and planning for the future.

The 2013-14 Family Education Calendar of Events will be posted online in June.
