The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba’s 2012 Gala took on a exotic Bollywood theme featuring the sights, sounds and sensations of India including a delicious gourmet dinner infused with the local flavours of India.
Guests were welcomed on Thursday , February 9 by the Tabla and Sitar players as they delighted in the rich gold decor complete with vibrant, colourful accents. Bollywood musicals played on large screens as people bid at the silent auction tables and enjoyed a host bar. Master of Ceremonies was none other than Ace Burpee of HOT103 who kept the crowd amused with his quick wit and quirky humour.
The highlight of the evening was when 60 year old Bob Knight, a government executive, shared his experiences of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at the height of his career. The speech was powerful and as a result, over 63 companies confirmed their participation as table sponsors for 2013.
The Live Auction items went fast and furious and the evening ended with the grand prize winner of the raffle going home with a seven night trip for two to Delhi, India. The event raised an astounding $195,000 with over 650 in attendance at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. All funds raised from this event support the important work of the Alzheimer Society.
